Wide range of design services

AARC's design services include the whole range of ship design, from basic design of a ship project, based on intended service and operating region, to detailed design for the purpose of yard tendering. Our experience and background enable us to offer a wide range of design services related to:

We know R&D

AARC has been operating as the Arctic R&D center for own and external shipyards for over 40 years. The range of development tasks is wide, and the work includes the utilization of AARC's all resources and tools.

Model Testing

AARC offers model testing in ice as a cost-efficient tool to develop ship projects, offshore oil and gas related projects, port developments, etc.

AARC has gathered an unique knowledge base from designing and constructing icebreakers and ice-going vessels for more than 50 years. There is no other marine consulting and testing facility in the world with such a large full-scale test correlation database, which is the one most important asset for correctly predicting real world physics from model testing. AARC's references include some 300 model test series.

AARC is now building its third ice model basin. The first was inaugurated in 1969. The second, present laboratory was built in 1983. The FG Model ice developed inhouse has proven to be the most reliable ice material to model different ice conditions.

Full Scale Testing and Ice Research

AARC offers full scale testing in ice and research work in cold regions. AARC has a track record of about 190 full scale field tests and expeditions.
AARC has gathered an unique knowledge base from designing and constructing icebreakers and ice-going vessels for more than 50 years. The work includes:

  • Data aquisition and site studies, ice properties, ice condition studies, ice reconnaissance field trips with ships as reasearch platform or landbased helicopter operations
  • Ship testing in ice, measurements, operation, manouvering
  • Testing of offshore structures in ice, measurements, ice formation and operation
  • Valuation of ice conditions, ice profiles, general / detailed information packages
  • Structural hull/structure measurements, global and local forces
