The two bunkering tankers will be built on Aker Brevik's subsidiary Aker Braila in Romania and is ordered by Maritima in France. Maritima belongs to the Compagnie Fluviale de Transport (CFT), a French company that is one of the leading companies in Europe for river transport, and is specialized in bunkering for ocean-going vessels.
- The building of two complete vessels in Romania demonstrates that our strategy of combining our Norwegian technology base with the cost level in our Romanian yards is highly competitive, says Karl Erik Kjelstad, CEO of Aker Yards. This order and the order received at Aker Tulcea for the building of three complete smaller container vessels communicated in December 2003, prove that Aker Yards is able to take part in the strong growing market for small tankers and container vessels.
The total value of the order is approximately Euro 26 million
- For Aker Braila this order secures full occupation for the employees in outfitting activities. The contract is also important in order to fulfill the strategy of Aker Braila, which is to make complete ships in addition to be a sub-contractor of hulls and steel constructions to other yards in the Aker Yards group, says Lars Stärk, Chairman of Aker Braila.
Aker Braila in Romania has some 2,500 employees. The well-equipped yard is located along the Danube, 170 km from the Black Sea.
