The AHTS is the 20th vessel Aker Brevik builds and will be the first AHTS of its kind. The Norwegian engineering company Moss Maritime AS has designed the vessel in cooperation with Aker Brevik.
Aker Brevik has previously built six Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessels, the latest in December 2003. Aker Brevik has also built 13 platform supply vessels (PSV).
"We are pleased to have won yet another AHTS contract. This contract indicates that we are still competitive in a market that remains challenging", said Lars Stärk, CEO of Aker Brevik.
"This is an important contract for Aker Brevik and our subsidiaries. It will reverberate positively throughout the Grenland region, as several local subcontractors will contribute to the project", commented Lars Stärk.
The ship's hull will be constructed at Aker Brevik's Romanian subsidiary Aker Braila, and will arrive in Brevik in mid-September. Date of delivery to Offshore Supply KS as specified in the contract is 22 December 2004.
Earlier this month, Aker Brevik signed contracts for the construction of 2+1 smaller tankers, which in their entirety will be built by Aker Braila in Romania. The company is also scheduled to build six process modules. The new AHTS contract will ensure Aker Brevik basic employment for 2004.
