A zero tolerance attitude toward undesirable health, safety, and environmental (HSE) incidents is among STX Europe’s core values. Injuries and accidents are to be avoided – hazardous conduct is not tolerated. Preventative measures are a key Group priority.
Along with preventing accidents, eliminating hazardous conditions and correcting potentially dangerous workplace conduct are also essential HSE objectives. An analytic approach, along with efforts to enhance both awareness of and responsibility for HSE performance, are measures that will ensure greater workplace safety.
To improve STX Europe’s HSE performance, each employee must take personal responsibility for his or her own health and safety and that of others; this responsibility is expressed in employees’ personal conduct. STX Europe is building a culture where each employee will intervene in situations that may compromise either their own health or safety, or that of others. STX Europe also expects this level of awareness and proactivity with respect to the workplace and the environment.
In STX Europe, HSE efforts are anchored at the top management level. All scheduled top-level management meetings begin with a summary of the status of implemented and planned HSE measures. Middle level managers do the same. The signal effect of making HSE a priority in this manner is beyond debate. High HSE performance levels are decisive to confidence among all parties with an interest in STX Europe.
